Kidney Care First is one of two new Medicare payment models under the Kidney Care Choices program. This program incentivizes participants to better manage kidney disease to delay the need for dialysis and encourage kidney transplantation.

KCF is open to nephrology practices and their nephrologists only, subject to meeting certain eligibility requirements.

KCF launched Jan. 1, 2022, and is anticipated to run for four years, with the option for one or two more performance years at CMS’ discretion.
