As health care reform discussions in Washington continue and lawmakers consider significant changes to reimbursement models for providers, having a clear understanding of the basics of the Medicare system is imperative for health care professionals.

HANYS DataGen AcademySM is pleased to offer Introduction to Medicare, a two-part Webconference, October 26 and 27, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. both days.

Introduction to Medicare will cover the fundamentals of the Medicare hospital payment system, including cost-based reimbursement, Prospective Payment Systems (PPSs), and fee schedule payment. Faculty will highlight the concepts driving recent reform proposals and discuss potential changes hospitals might face. At the conclusion of this program, participants will:

  • have a clear understanding of how Medicare determines reimbursement rates;
  • be able to estimate Medicare payments for their facilities; and
  • know the language and terminology of PPSs.

Participants will receive 1.5 hours of Certified Public Accountant credit from the State Board for Public Accountancy and 3.0 continuing education units for use in fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the American Health Information Management Association.
